Josh first became a world champion in 2018 when he won the IBF featherweight title, defeating Lee Selby. He successfully defended his title several times, earning a reputation as one of the top featherweights in the world. However, he lost the belt to Mauricio Lara in 2021 and has since been on a mission to reclaim his status!
Now, Josh is preparing for a high-stakes fight at Wembley. He’ll be competing in a new, higher weight category: super-featherweight, which he’s been training for over the past 12 weeks. This fight is going to be an exciting moment in his career, and everyone here at iGD is behind him!
His return to the spotlight has generated a lot of excitement, with fans eagerly anticipating whether Warrington can prove himself at a heavier weight. We sat down with Josh to talk about his fight predictions for Wembley...
"96,000, Wembley Stadium. Heavyweight World Championship headlining the show, and I'm in a World title fight myself. It's like, wow, what an opportunity.
"These last 12 weeks, I've killed myself. I've literally killed myself in here. Every session I've walked in, no matter how tired I've been beforehand, mentally or physically, I'll just give it 100% just so that I know when I walk to that ring, I've done everything possible that I can to win."
"This fight is going to be different because a lot of people are thinking that Josh Warrington is finished.
"Looking at my last two fights, two losses, I'm not thinking I'm coming off of losses, I'm taking into consideration what goes on in the gym, the mentality and the mindset that goes into this fight."
"A lot of people are going to think that my career is riding on this, but more than anything, it's me stepping up a new weight. It's a chance for me to make a bit more history, add to my legacy, and a chance to become a two-weight three-time World Champion."
"He's big. He's got beard. He looks angry! But he's very respectful, he's a tough man.
"He's a new champion and they're always hard men to beat because they've had the taste of what it means to be a world champion and they don't want to let go of it. They want to keep on that belt as long as possible."
"I believe he's going to give it absolutely everything, but I also believe that I've got more levels. I have more experience. I've been there, been in those hard slogs, in those hard trench fights.
"Even though I've had more fights and more experience, I feel like I'm going to be the fresher man on the night."
