THE EVOLUTION OF IGD SPORT
FOUNDED BY A PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE TURNED PHYSIOTHERAPIST.
IGD Sport was founded by Andy Wray, a former professional athlete turned physiotherapist. The brand was originally known as ‘I GOT DOMS’ before changing its name in 2022 to IGD Sport.
Andy began manufacturing products for his clients to help them recover from and prevent injuries using different compression fabrics. Compression products have been proven to improve performance by increasing blood flow, supporting joints, reducing injuries, and preventing Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). He focused on using the best materials and making them contour the body, finding that many of his clients, including professional athletes, adopted the products. Andy produced the famous ‘Ductor Short’ - a compression short to reduce groin injuries - which became popular in sports such as rugby and boxing and to this day is IGD Sport’s best-selling product. Andy quickly followed this up with more compression garments, including calf guards and elbow sleeves, before producing his first capsule compression range.
iGD SPORT BECOMES TRUSTED BY THE WORLD'S SPORTING ELITE
IGD Sport became the trusted compression brand for many of the world’s best athletes, who then asked Andy to expand the portfolio offering. He began by designing ‘overlays’ to sit on top of the compression product, including the now renowned IGD tracksuit. The tracksuit became the staple amongst boxing's elite, adorned by some of the best fighters in the world for some of the biggest fights over the last decade.
In 2021, Zeri Cheetham-Karcz, with a background in Marketing and Retail, was introduced to the brand by simply trialling the bra and leggings. Her initial thought was it was the best product on the market, but it could benefit from some new designs and product perfection, given her background. Having had her third child, Zeri was looking for leggings with ultimate support and tummy control. She worked on a collection with Andy and invested in early 2022 when the brand altered its name; by mid-2022, she was running the direction of the brand. Zeri is passionate about providing products with excellent technical benefits for the ‘Everyday Athlete’ and combining this with the latest designs to give customers empowerment and confidence in their sportswear. Along with Andy, Zeri knows the needs of the iGD Sport customer because, as a working mum who trains daily with a mixture of HIIT and weight training, she is an 'Everyday Athlete' and a customer herself.
Now in 2024 the brand has a cult following in the sports of Rugby, Boxing, Running, Football and HIIT, and continues to innovate its product range to suit its ever-growing audience.
